Italian Crystal Claret Jug with Silverplate Mount

A striking mid-century Italian silverplate and cut crystal claret jug — generous in scale at 9 inches tall and substantial in weight, designed for a table that understands the ritual of serving wine with intention.

The Craftsmanship

The crystal body is deeply and precisely cut — diamond and fan motifs covering every surface from the heavy star-cut base to the fluted neck, catching and refracting light from every angle. The silverplate collar, handle, and hinged lid are cast and chased with remarkable detail: double beaded borders framing applied acanthus leaf appliqués, a fully articulated foliate twisted handle, and a delicate leaf finial crowning the hinged lid. The hinge mechanism opens and closes cleanly.

Marked Made in Italy on the handle alongside small impressed silversmith marks — the quality of the casting and the weight of the piece speak to mid-century Italian silverplate at its finest.

A Piece With Purpose

A claret jug of this scale was made for a particular kind of table — one where wine was decanted, presented, and poured as part of the occasion rather than an afterthought. It belongs on a bar cart, a sideboard, or at the center of a table dressed for celebration. The kind of piece that makes guests ask where it came from.
