This Raymond silverplate wire bread basket has an oval mid century form for serving bread, rolls, fruit, or small linens. It also works as bar cart decor, a table centerpiece, or a formal dining accent.
There is nothing unnecessary about this basket. No engraving, no ornament, no flourish. Just wire — dozens of parallel lines drawn from a solid polished center to a continuous oval rim — and the discipline to stop there. Mid-Century design at its most honest. The form does exactly what it promises and nothing more.
Raymond Silverplate produced pieces in this geometric wire tradition during the height of American modernist design. The parallel wire construction was a signature of the era — functional sculpture that looked as considered on a sideboard as it did on a dining table.
On the table: Fill it with bread rolls for a dinner party and it earns its place immediately. Use it for fruit, croissants, crackers, or cocktail napkins on a bar cart. Style it empty on a sideboard — the wire shadow it casts under a lamp is its own decoration. A favourite of food and product photographers for its graphic, light-catching structure.

Very good vintage condition. There is a hairline crack on the base which does not affect the structural integrity of the piece — the basket sits level, holds its form, and functions fully as intended. The wire construction above is completely sound with no bent or missing wires. Honest about age; ready for the table.
